SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police are investigating a fatal shooting on the city's east side.

Chief Frank Fowler says one car fired on another just after 11:00 Sunday night on the 3400 block of East Genesee Street. Police identify the victim as 27-year-old Verdel Hills of Syracuse. Hills died from his wounds Monday morning.

The neighborhood is a normally quiet one near Le Moyne College. Chief Fowler says he's sure people living in the area know this kind of situation is "out of the norm."

"This is a very quiet neighborhood, and the people here know what type of neighborhood this is and I'm sure they know this is completely out of the norm for this type of neighborhood. So what would I say to them tonight? We don't really have much to say because we're still figuring this out ourselves" said Fowler.

Police say they are still in the early stages of the investigation and are looking for the person responsible for the shooting. If anyone has any information on the case, they can call investigators at 442-5222.
