Bud Thorpe (left) in court Wednesday morning
SYRACUSE -- Harold "Bud" Thorpe III has to finish what he started. That's what a State Supreme Court judge told him in court Wednesday morning.
Thorpe is being sued by New York State after he failed to follow through with several wedding contracts. Thorpe collected the money upfront for wedding photographs, DVDs and proofs. The State Attorney General's Office started their investigation after 25 couples filed complaints with the office. A temporary order issued by the judge will keep Thorpe from doing any new business until he has resolved past obligations.
One couple that has been waiting on their wedding proofs since 2006 was in court Wednesday. For them it was the first step in the right direction. "I'm happy. I think the judge was tough on him which is what I think really needed to happen," says Patrick Lyons. His wife, Diana, went on to say "I'm glad an order was made today and that he has to come through with certain things right away."
Bud Thorpe is scheduled to be back in court on April 21st.
The Attorney General urges any consumers or business owners who believe they may have been defrauded by Thorpe to contact the Syracuse Regional Office at 315-448-4848.
