SYRACUSE -- While NCAA basketball teams get ready to hit the road for round one of tournament play, the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau is getting ready for the Sweet 16 round in two weeks.
It has been years in the making, and organizers are expecting it to run very smoothly. "We have really been gearing all our efforts to our visitor services. We have so many out of town visitors coming in to the community, we want to put our best foot forward. We've been working very hard on clean up, the community has really come together so we look nice and fresh," says Tracy Kegebein, Vice President of Sales and Service for the CVB.
The Spring edition of the Visitors Guide features a whole spread with Carrier Dome information, places to eat, where to stay and what to do while you are in the Syracuse area. They are even offering a new technology feature. Guests can text "dome" to a number in the guide and get updates about the tournament right on their cell phones.
Once this coming weekend is over, we will know what teams will be coming to Syracuse. Some good prospects are Kentucky, West Virginia, New Mexico and Wisconsin. Hotels are still taking reservations and Kegebein says that will pick up next week. "This is a very last minute situation because we won't know until the end of the weekend what teams are coming here, so we've had some callers asking but fans will really book next week. Sunday night we'll know what four teams will be here and hotels will really go nuts booking."
A city-wide clean up will happen this weekend to insure when fans do get into town, they are greeted with the best backdrop for Sweet 16 play.
