JUPITER FL -- A Colgate University basketball player is under arrest in Florida after allegedly breaking into a home.
According to a report from the Jupiter, Florida Police Department, 19-year-old John C. Brandenburg of St. Louis, Missouri has been arrested and charged with burglary. Police say at about 5:30 Tuesday morning he smashed a homeowner's garage window with a tire iron in order to get into the house. Then, when confronted by the victim, Brandenburg allegedly asked the victim if he had any beer and wanted to party. The victim is said to have detained Brandenburg until police arrived.
Brandenburg is also alleged to have broken a window on the victim’s Nissan Maxima. Police say that Brandenburg admitted to the property damage when being escorted from the scene by the arresting officer, and said he would pay for it.
Brandenburg is charged with two counts of burglary and one count of criminal mischief. He is currently being held on $3,000 bail bond.
While in police custody, officers say that Brandenburg damaged the door to his cell by rattling it. Police say the damage will cost around $500 to repair.
Brandenburg is a 6’11”, 230 pound sophomore center in his first year at Colgate after transferring from the University of Virginia.
