ITHACA -- Cornell University has announced that it will install temporary fences on the sides of campus bridges. This is a response to the shocking deaths of students on the Ivy League campus.

Six students in the past six months have died on campus, at least three of them by jumping off of bridges and into the gorges below.

A Cornell parent bulletin says the school is inspired by the many ways in which members of the community have reached out to students, faculty and staff after the tragedies.

The National Suicide Prevention Committee advocates bridge barriers as an effective means of suicide prevention.
