NCAA Eastern Regionals at Carrier Dome
Kentucky Head Basketball Coach John Calipari arrives in Syracuse to play in the NCAA at the Carrier Dome.
SYRACUSE -- The favorites to win the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in Indianapolis next week arrived in Syracuse tonight under a light drizzle and chilly March temperatures. The Kentucky Wildcats flew on a chartered jet from Lexington, Kentucky after finishing an afternoon practice. They are one of three teams coming to town to play the semi-finals of the Eastern Regional at the Carrier Dome Thursday night.
Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari joked when he got off the bus at the Genesee Grande hotel that he hoped Syracuse Orange fans would cheer for his team instead of the underdog Cornell Big Red from nearby Ithaca. Kentucky has a closed practice tomorrow at an undisclosed location to work on game plans. It then will practice publicly at the Dome late in the afternoon.
The West Virginia Mountaineers and the Washington Huskies were both arriving on Tuesday evening aboard charter flights before heading to their respective hotels along Carrier Circle. The Cornell Big Red had the quickest commute taking a one hour bus ride to the Syracuse area.
The public is welcome to attend all the practice sessions at the Carrier Dome tomorrow afternoon. There is no admission charged. Thousands of tickets are still available at the Carrier Dome box office for the Thursday and Saturday games that will decide which team will head to the Final Four.
