SYRACUSE -- Hundreds gathered at an inspirational breakfast Monday morning to kick off the 'White Ribbon' campaign. It is put on by Vera House in Syracuse to bring awareness to domestic abuse.
Starting April 9th through the 18th, as many as 40,000 people will wear white ribbons to raise awareness about domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Monday, in the OnCenter Ballroom, Syracuse University's head football coach, Doug Marrone, was named the honorary chair. Marrone said, "When I came here as head coach, I was looking to give back. That's been a quality coach has instilled in us for a long time. And then, when I was approached by the Vera House I said, what's better? So, I was excited to sink my teeth in and it's not a situation that's just honorary chair. It's something I'm going to be with as long as I'm here".
Funds raised during the White Ribbon campaign will go to the Vera House's education and awareness programs and services.
