LIVERPOOL -- The Liverpool School Board has passed the superintendent's budget.

The budget plan includes nearly $9 million in cuts, including 130 jobs. It also includes a $1 million property tax increase.

The school board added some cuts to the budget. Board members decided to slash the entire Universal Pre-K program.

Superintendent Richard Johns says it can be tough to balance a budget with such a big gap. "I hope by now everybody understands that when you try to do business with $11 million less than you had the previous year, things have to go," he says. Dr. Johns added he feels the public had plenty of time to take part in the budget process.

Board members already approved a plan to close Wetzel Road Elementary School at the end of this school year.

The budget goes to voters on May 18th.
