OSWEGO -- Oswego Police are warning you to watch out for people breaking the hawking rules. Three people were arrested late last week for violations. Tori Wiles, 26, Joshua Whipple, 23, and Robert Francis, 22, were all sent to jail on $100 bail.
In Oswego, it's illegal to be a hawker, peddler, or solicitor, or to have a transient business without getting a license.
Officers say the suspects claimed to be working for a company called Direct Energy. They went door to door soliciting sales, but didn't have any permits.
Oswego Police Chief Michael Dehm is warning people to be wary of this situation, and any deals that sound too good to be true. Dehm says you should always ask for references to make sure you're not being taken advantage of. If something about the person doesn't seem right, or if you are being unduly pressured to buy something, notify police immediately. You can call the Oswego Police Department at 342-8122.
