Benefits Hillside Work-Scholarship connection
A program to help at-risk students succeed, founded by the Wegmans family, is now getting a boost from a food and drink fundraiser sponsored by Wegmans. The 'Taste of Success' is set for this Friday at the State Fair Art & Home Center, and will feature foods prepared by the stores' chefs--who will also be on hand to offer food and eating tips. Wines and beers as well as live music and a raffle are also planned. Evelyn Carter, Wegmans Consumer Affairs director for this area, says it will all benefit Hillside's mentoring program for at-risk Syracuse students, aimed at raising the high school graduation rate. Last year, the program served 500 7-12th graders in city schools, with 89% promoted to their next grade level.
'Taste of Syracuse' is Friday evening (April 16) at the State Fair Art & Home Center, 5:30-8pm. Tickets are at Wegmans, $30 in advance or $40 at the event.
