ALBANY (AP) -- The New York state attorney general's office recovered more than $283 million with a record 148 Medicaid fraud convictions in 2009.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that the Medicaid Fraud Unit has recovered more than $660 million in taxpayer funds in the past three years.

The information is detailed in an annual report to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Among the more prominent cases was a $91 million civil settlement with Eli Lilly to resolve allegations that it illegally promoted Zyprexa for off-label uses.

An investigation of corruption in the home care industry during 2009 resulted in civil settlements totaling $51.7 million and 25 criminal convictions.
