SKANEATELES -- Police investigators tell CNY Central that they have completed their investigation into a body found in a local lake this past weekend.
On Saturday, the body of 41-year-old Wendy Sherman of Auburn was pulled from a car submerged in twelve feet of water in Skaneateles Lake. Police say the underwater car was discovered by a man launching his boat near the marina.
Tuesday morning, Troopers released the findings of their investigation. According to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office, the cause of death is accidental drowning. Police believe Sherman was drunk when she accidentally drove off a boat ramp and into the lake. Sherman had a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of .22%, which is nearly three times the state’s legal limit of .08%.
Police originally believed that Sherman either didn’t know the area or wasn’t paying attention when she drove into the lake.
