ONEIDA -- Oneida Police say the remains discovered in a shallow grave off of Canal Road on April 6th have been identified as those of 41-year-old Mark Murray of Syracuse.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death a homicide. Murray was reported missing by his family in May of 2008. Murray was last seen at his home on Sabine Street in Syracuse.  Police say he was driving his red Firebird when he disappeared. The car has not been found.

Murray was described as a white male, 5'11" tall, weighing 145 to155 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. The Firebird's license plate number is EGK 9024.

In June 2008, Murray's mother told CNY Central that Murray was headed to his son's lacrosse game on May 22 when he disappeared.

Police are asking anyone that recalls seeing any suspicious activity on Canal Road in late May of 2008 or a red Firebird or other vehicle parked near the aqueduct on Canal Road where the canal intersects with Cowalson Creek to give them a call.

Oneida City Police: 363-2323
Syracuse Police: 442-5188

Police say that all calls will be kept confidential.
