VIRGIL, CORTLAND CO. -- An unidentified man was found dead in a ravine Thursday afternoon.

According to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Clute Road in the Town of Virgil near a power station for a report of an unresponsive person in a vehicle. The vehicle was discovered by a person who owns property nearby. Deputies arrived and found the vehicle resting in a ravine approximately 300 feet from the road. Police say that the vehicle appeared to have been driven into the ravine and became stuck.

Deputies and rescue crews descended into the ravine and found an unidentified white male dead inside the vehicle. Police say there did not appear to be any foul play, but the exact cause of death is not known. We’re told that an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Police did not release any further details on the type of vehicle, nor a description of the deceased man.
