WASHINGTON (AP) -- A new poll suggests trust in Washington is about as low as it's been in half a century.

The Pew Research Center survey finds that nearly 80 percent of respondents say they can't trust Washington and have little faith that the massive federal bureaucracy can solve the nation's ills.

The survey finds just 22 percent say they can trust Washington almost always or most of the time, and nearly half say the government negatively affects their daily lives. That sentiment has grown over the past dozen years.

Majorities in the survey call Washington too big and too powerful, and say it's interfering too much in state and local matters.
