ALBANY (AP) -- A new poll says New York supporters of the tea party movement are overwhelmingly Republican and conservative, and more likely to be from upstate.
The Siena College poll released Monday says 19 percent of New Yorkers consider themselves supporters of the movement, while 25 percent say they're opponents and 46 percent say they neither support nor oppose it.
When looking at party breakouts, 35 percent of Republicans and 41 percent of conservatives say they're supporters, compared to 7 percent of Democrats and 27 percent of independents.
Opponents include 38 percent of Democrats and 54 percent of liberals.
The phone survey of 806 registered voters was conducted last Monday through Thursday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
