The state appears to be changing positions again on truck regulations in the Finger Lakes.
At a meeting Wednesday with the Upstate Safety Coalition, a group opposed to big rig trucks on rural highways in the Finger Lakes, a representative from Governor David Paterson's office announced nothing is off the table. Just last week, the state Department of Transportation said regulations were no longer being considered.
Pam MacKesey, a member of Governor Paterson's task force on trucks, was at both meetings. She says both announcements were surprises to some of the people involved in discussions.
Neighbors in the Finger Lakes have fought for years to keep trucks off the rural highways. They say the trucks are both a safety hazard and a nuisance.
The governor's office says Paterson wants to continue working with the community to see that issues are resolved. The Upstate Safety Coalition will be meeting with a representative from Paterson's office in the first week of May.
