Maxfield Parrish works on display
Syracuse's Everson Museum of Art, which saw record-breaking crowds for its Turner to Cezanne exhibit, is about to open it's next big show. Everson Director Steven Kern says Maxwell Parrish was dominant in the American art scene in the 1910-20 and 30s, and was the first to create his work to be duplicated, on magazine covers or through merchandising.
Many of his reproductions were sold for home wall art. The style reminds of a contemporary, Tiffany, in a style that came before the art deco period. The Everson will be displaying over a hundred pieces, prints, merchandise and more. 'Fantasies and Fairy-Tales: Maxfield Parrish and the Art of the Print' opens to the public on Thursday and will be on display until July 11 (Tues - Fri & Sunday noon -5pm, Saturday 10 - 5). www.everson.org has more.
