'Stamp Out Hunger' in its 18th year
Besides dropping off mail, letter carriers will be picking up on Saturday (May 8th) as part of their Stamp Out Hunger initiative.
Fred Scott, a letter carrier in the Syracuse area and member of the Association of Letter Carriers, which organizes the food drive, says it's the 18th year for the food collection, and that this year they'll pass one billion pounds of donated non-perishables. It's the largest one-day food drive in the country.
You can leave your donations near your mailbox on Saturday (non-perishables, no glass containers), or in the branch where your post office box is located. Letter carriers, with help from United Way volunteers, will sort and send the contributions to area food banks, which need the 'push' before their busy summer seasons. For more: www.NALC.org
