Schiller Park has a great view of the Syracuse skyline and a calm and peaceful walking trail.
But it also has some features that are slightly more unsightly.
Tennis courts are run down and weeds sprout through the pavement.
But one group is doing something about that.
Starting last Saturday, The Friends of Schiller Park are meeting the first Saturday of every month to help clean up the park.
One member of the group says it's making a difference.
"I don't think it's looked any cleaner than it does right now," says treasurer Christopher Wiles. "It's really been improved upon."
Those who frequent the park agree.
"Sometimes you come up here and the trash cans are full," says Mickey Webb. "But I see today they're empty so I think they're making a good effort to keep it clean."
The Friends of Schiller Park would like to start improving some of the eyesores of the park, like the tennis courts.
But Wiles says to do that, they need more people and money. Wiley says,
"We also want to improve the tennis courts and the basketball courts. There are a number of things we have in mind that we just haven't been able to do because of a lack of funding and people."
Last month National Grid employees volunteered to help clean up Lincoln Park.
Wiley says it would be nice to have that kind of support.
He says they're working on several fund-raising ideas like a dance at the park.
