MANLIUS -- OCWA has issued a boil water advisory for parts of Manlius after a water main break Thursday morning.
OCWA tells CNY Central that residents on Thatchwood Lane, Barberry Lane, Dogwood Lane, Tanglewood Lane, Briarwood Lane, Stanwood Lane, Limberlost Lane, Armstrong Road, and Cavalry Green in the Town of Manlius are advised by the Onondaga County Health Department to boil all water for drinking and cooking purposes. OCWA says when a water main breaks there is a chance that untreated water and harmful microbes could enter the water system.
The authority advises residents living on the affected streets not to drink their water without boiling it first. They say you should bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills most bacteria and other organisms in the water.
OCWA says harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. The symptoms above are not just caused by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.
OCWA says that repairs on the water main break were completed early Thursday afternoon. They expect that the boil water advisory will be lifted as early as Saturday, after tests determine the water is once again safe to drink.
