Update Sunday morning
Utility crews from both National Grid and NYSEG spent the night and into Sunday working to restore power to thousands of Central New Yorkers.
National Grid still had hundreds without power, by late Sunday morning, including in Cortland County, where Cortlandville and Virgil have the most outages, Oneida County, in the Remsen area, 372 in Onondaga County, primarily in the Camillus and City of Syracuse area and 90 in Oswego County. The utility does not have specific times for all the restorations.
New York State Electric and Gas has major outages in Ithaca, with 1,693 customers without power, 3,022 in Elmira, 182 in Auburn and 1,673 in Geneva. Late Monday is the estimated restoration time for most. http://ebiz1.nyseg.com/cusweb/outage/
A tree fell on a home on Audrey Dr in North Syracuse. The wind brought the tree down just after 6:30pm Saturday night. No one was home at the house at the time. Neighbor Richelle Chappell heard the tree fall. She said, "All of a sudden I heard this loud crash, a boom, My legs actually buckled under me."
Shannon Rice lives next door. She arrived home shortly after the tree fell on her neighbors house. "It's pretty scary, it's awful," she said.
There appeared to be some damage to the upper floor of the home.
On Euclid Avenue in the University area, a tree was split down the middle and threatened to fall on the road. National Grid was at the scene and shut off electricity to people in the area while the tree was removed.
In Camillus, a tree fell on a building in the Maplewood Cemetary. The small building was covered with leaves and branches so it was difficult to see if there was any damage.
