SYRACUSE -- Local leaders joined together with Habitat for Humanity and other charitable groups to promote the visitability movement. Syracuse mayor Stephanie Miner and Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney issued a joint proclamation making May Visitability Awareness month.
The visitability movement promotes basic access to new home construction. The homes make it possible for people with physical disabilities to freely enter homes and visit family and friends, or become homeowners without costly renovations. The feature also gives seniors a place to age rather than needing a nursing home due to access problems.
The event was held Friday morning outside a newly constructed home on Elliot Street in Syracuse.
