Bike benefit for diabetes on June 6
Tour de Cure is 18 years old this year, and from a couple hundred cyclists, this year they already have over 500 bicyclists set to ride.
That's a record, according to Sylvia Hough, area director for the American Diabetes Association. The ride is June 6th, starting from Verona Beach State Park, and the longest event goes 100 miles, around Oneida Lake. There are also many shorter routes, including one that's 15 miles. Hough says it's not a race, but rather is designed to encourage exercise as a way of managing--or preventing--diabetes, which is seeing the number of cases increase dramatically, in part because of inactivity, poor eating habits and obesity. Funds raised will go to research and to spread awareness of diabetes and its management.
