UTICA -- Congressman Michael Arcuri wants another term in Washington.
The two-term Democrat made the announcement that he is running for re-election on the patio of Utica's Union Station Monday afternoon. Arcuri says he supports the plan to bring high speed rail to Central New York, and he also knows the race to retain his 24th Congressional District seat will be a challenge.
“We are finding ways to strengthen our local economies by building on the foundations of what we have. In the first half of this year alone we have seen new initiatives and legislation that will add jobs and strengthen our communities. Real money flowing into our region to help rebuild our infrastructure and develop businesses and jobs in new economic sectors like high tech, green energy and cybersecurity,” said Arcuri in a statement to the media.
Arcuri's race this time around will be a rematch from the last time he ran two years ago. Republican businessman Richard Hanna has already thrown his hat in the ring, and has the support of the GOP.
The race is also gaining some national attention. The Washington Post recently listed the race on its "Top 30 Races Likely To Switch Parties".
