Almost every school district in Central New York will put budgets up for a vote Tuesday, but what happens if a budget gets rejected? According to the New York State Department of Education, districts have a few choices.

Districts can revise the budget and put it up for a vote one more time. That one would have to be put up for a vote on June 15th this year.

If that budget fails, districts must enact a contingency budget by July 1st. Contingency budgets can mean drastic cuts because they are subject to caps.

Districts can also skip the revote and enact a contingency budget immediately.

The Syracuse City School District is the only one in Central New York that doesn't present its budget to voters. The budget is included in the Syracuse city budget.
