MARCELLUS -- Marcellus High School is taking pride this week in a very fun and unique way to keep their students safe on Senior Ball night.
The school is the only one in the area to have what’s called the “Crystal Ball Cruise”. The Crystal Ball Cruise features over 60 people volunteering their classic or hot rod cars or in one case, even a monster truck, to safely transport couples to and from their senior ball. The entire community loves the idea - students save money on a potential limousine drive, parents don’t have to worry about a safe return home for their children, and everyone is assured it’s a drug and alcohol free night for all involved.
The event also brings everyone in the community out to celebrate, along the ride from Marcellus to the Empire Room at the State Fairgrounds residents watch the parade of fantastic looking cars en route to the Ball. The vehicles range from real classics like a Chevy from the 1940s, several classic Ford Mustangs, fitting for the Marcellus “Mustangs”, among many other unique vehicles. The students feel like they’re celebrities with chauffeurs driving them in style to the night that is meant to culminate their high school careers.
The night wouldn’t be possible without the numerous people who volunteer their vehicles, time, and effort to coordinate the event. It’s these people the community is thankful for, and the collaborative effort that makes this school special.
