CAPE VINCENT -- Friends and colleagues of Mark Davis are preparing to take a trip to Albany. The EMT, who was killed in the line of duty, will be honored Wednesday at a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Empire State Plaza.
Davis was killed January 31, 2009, while responding to a call. Police say he was shot by Christopher Burke, a man he was trying to treat. Now, Davis will have his name added to the state's EMS memorial.
About 15 people from the Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service are planning to take the trip. They were busy preparing by waxing and washing their ambulance and fly car. They will drive down and wear their uniforms to honor Mark.
"He was such a great guy, and he was such a good person, and he had a heart of gold," says TIERS director Roland Churchill. "It's the perfect essence of what he stood for."
Mark was also a volunteer firefighter with the Cape Vincent Fire Department. Members of that department and several others from the area are also planning to go.
"It was a very tragic event, and I think it affected everybody," says Mark's coworker Deborah Oliver. "Just to set time apart and to go down and honor his efforts is very important."
Also being honored are Louis Flury of the Union Fire Company and Richard Quigley of the Hudson Valley Paramedic Service.
