Memorial Weekend donation drive
A Fairmont church is gathering and sending comfort packages to local deployed troops this Memorial Day Weekend. Holy Family is setting up donation bins in the front of the Gathering Space of the church off Genesee St. Saturday and Sunday, May 29th and May 30th.
Ellen McCauley is coordinating the event and has been involved in troop support since Desert Storm. She says there are 188,000 men and women serving overseas. The Grand Knights of the Christ the King Council and Holy Family Church are also a part of the Comfort Food Package Program.
Items needed include store bought packaged cookies, crackers, hard candies, gum, AA batteries, soft drink mixes, moist hand wipes, magazines (new or gently read), cheese crackers, small notebooks, stationery, journals, pens, pencils, canned tuna fish, Slim Jims, Chapstick, Kleenex (small packages), ankle socks, antiperspirant deodorants, toothpaste, CD’s and DVD’s (new or gently used).
Checks made payable to Frank Donati with “Sponsor a Package” Memo can be mailed to 306 Lynch Road, Camillus, NY 13031. A monetary donation of $14 helps mail a large package overseas.
