SYRACUSE -- This week’s edition of "My School" takes us to Onondaga Hill Middle School in the Westhill School District, where the school is proud to announce several acts of kindness for those in need.
We’ll start with a school-wide phenomenon, a dodgeball tournament that will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation. Each participant donates one dollar to be a part of the many teams of six. The tournament will last for several weeks, and got underway on Monday.
Eighth graders at the school recently donated their time and efforts to serve meals at the Rescue Mission. According to student Brian Toran, the experience was one they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. Seventh graders at OHMS sold crapes and carnations to benefit victims of the devastating Haiti earthquake. The students also bought and delivered Christmas gifts to those in need to brighten their holiday spirit. Even some fifth graders got into the act, knitting sweaters for participants of the Special Olympics.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the generosity of the school, but playing dodgeball AND benefitting a very worthy cause is a lot of fun. It shows that when it comes to giving back Onondaga Hill Middle School is ahead of the curve, and makes it a great time for all.
