SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Police Department has issued a traffic advisory for those attending the Syracuse Chiefs vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees game on Saturday.
According to a police department news release, the department is advising fans to expect traffic delays and leave for the stadium earlier than usual due to the expected record attendance and sellout for the game.
Police say parking lots will be opening at 4:30 p.m. The Chiefs say the stadium gates will open at 5:30. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00.
To avoid delays, the Syracuse Police Department is recommending that fan's use the 7th North Street exit from Interstate 81 and park in the Alliance Bank Stadium overflow parking lot located on Hiawatha Boulevard at 4th North Street. This parking lot is commonly referred to as the "Netti Lot" and is situated directly behind the right field fence. The walkway from the Netti Lot brings fans to the first base line entrance into the stadium.
Onondaga County Parks, which runs the ballpark, says tailgating will be allowed in all lots, with fans reminded that food and beverage may not be carried into the stadium. Glass containers are prohibited.
The Grant Boulevard entrance into the Alliance Bank Stadium main parking lot will be closed to all traffic.
Washington Nationals pitching phenom and #1 overall draft pick Stephen Strasburg is scheduled to start Saturday's game. According to the Associated Press, in 45 1-3 innings in eight starts between Syracuse and Double-A Harrisburg he has struck out 54 batters and yielded just 22 hits and 10 walks. He has an overall ERA of 0.99, and 0.39 with the Chiefs.
