FINGER LAKES (AP) -- The New York Farm Bureau is set to detail its opposition to proposed new state regulations on outdoor wood boilers.
State environmental officials want to put limits on how and when the boilers are used and require some equipment changes in order to reduce air pollution and plumes of smoke that can be a nuisance.
But the Farm Bureau says the rules will be costly for farmers and homeowners who use the boilers to heat homes, barns and greenhouses. They say thousands of owners will have to pay for expensive retrofits to meet new smokestack height requirements.
Farm Bureau staff were scheduled to discuss the issues during a conference call today (Tuesday).
