BRIDGEPORT -- Family and friends of a mother who was critically injured in a devastating crash are pulling together to help her out.
A Facebook group is now working to organize a benefit for 38-year-old Peggy Blume of Cicero. As of Tuesday morning she is listed in critical condition in a medically-induced coma at Upstate University Hospital after surviving a crash when her minivan was struck by an SUV head-on last week.
Friends, family, and even strangers are joining the Facebook page, offering what they can to help raise money. Many are willing to volunteer their time, selling tickets and getting the word out, while others are putting together items to be raffled off as part of the fundraiser.
The same May 24 crash on State Route 31 in Bridgeport killed 17-year-old Victoria Deverso of Liverpool. Her funeral was held this past Saturday.
State Police say 18-year-old Chelsea Kuss was driving the Trailblazer that Deverso was riding in. Kuss was trying to pass several cars when she crashed into Peggy Blume's stopped minivan. Kuss is still in the hospital recovering from her injuries, and was last listed in critical condition.
The benefit that is being setup via the Facebook group is scheduled for August 14, but more details have to be worked out. The proceeds will help pay for Blume's medical expenses.
