VESTAL, NY (AP) -- Authorities say scaffolding has collapsed at a Binghamton University construction site, injuring five people.

They say a section of the scaffold fell about 60 feet Wednesday afternoon at the East Campus Housing project.

Police tell the Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin there were no deaths, but one of the victims was bleeding heavily on the way to an ambulance.

WBNG-TV reports that Wilson Hospital in Johnson City has four patients and one is at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. They were being evaluated and there was no immediate word on their conditions.

The university is in the middle of a multimillion project to upgrade or replace aging facilities. The contractor is LeChase Construction of Rochester. Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials were on their way to the scene.
