SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police have charged a city man with assault and other crimes for allegedly running down his brother with a minivan.
Police say they were called to the scene of what was believed to be a hit and run accident in the 500 block of LeMoyne Avenue at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday. There they found 25-year-old John Laveck of Union Place in Syracuse lying in the street. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he is being treated for a broken leg, broken pelvis, and several abrasions. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
Police say their investigation revealed that Laveck was a passenger in a minivan driven by his brother, 23-year-old Josh Laveck of Clarence Avenue in Syracuse. The two men apparently started to argue and John Laveck left the vehicle and began walking. Police say Josh Laveck initially drove away, but turned the vehicle around, and ran down his brother who was walking on the side of the street.
Josh Laveck was charged with assault in the first degree, leaving the scene of a personal injury incident, both felonies, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and reckless driving, both misdemeanors. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges sometime Tuesday.
