ALBANY (AP) -- The head of the New York state prison system and other state officials will honor two correction department employees during a ceremony being held today in Albany.
This afternoon's ceremony at the state Department of Correctional Services' Training Academy will also memorialize the nearly three dozen prison employees who have died in the line of duty over the past 150 years.
Commissioner Brian Fischer will be on hand, along with other state officials and lawmakers.
Also expected to attend are survivors and hostages from the 1971 Attica prison riot as well as survivors of the 35 prison employees who have died since 1861 in the line of duty as the result of inmate actions.
The employees receiving medals today include a person from Westchester who works at the Great Meadow state prison in Washington County and a person from Tompkins County who works at Cayuga Correctional Facility in Cayuga County.
