SYRACUSE -- Well, he was spotted at several area restaurants recently taping segments for his popular "Man vs. Food" show on the Travel Channel. Now the popular host will be back in Central New York to make an appearance at the New York State Fair. Here are the details from the fair's news release:
Travel Channel television star Adam Richman, host of "Man v. Food," will cook, entertain and judge a New York State Fair food challenge on the Chevy Court stage on Saturday, Aug. 28.
Richman's afternoon show, like all Chevy Court performances, will be free for Fairgoers with Fair admission.
"The Fair is a place where people indulge their taste buds and try foods they've never tried before. That makes this a perfect venue for Adam Richman," Fair Director Dan O'Hara said. "He is a true culinary adventurer. He is also an accomplished actor, an experienced chef, and a very funny man. We are excited to host him at the Fair."
Richman was in Syracuse last week to film an episode of his show, which takes him to restaurants across the country to take on eating challenges that have included a 72-ounce steak, 12-egg omelette, and a variety of the hottest wings the human body can tolerate. Parts of his Syracuse show were filmed at Heid's of Liverpool, Mother's Cupboard Fish Fry and the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, which has a stand at the New York State Fair.
The Syracuse episode of "Man v. Food" is scheduled to air in September. This year's Fair runs Aug. 26 through Sept. 6.
Richman will give a cooking demonstration on Chevy Court and will judge a food challenge. More details about the food challenge and his visit to the Fair will be announced as they are finalized.
"Man v. Food" received the highest ratings of any new show on the Travel Channel when it debuted in 2008. Richman, the show's host since its premier, brings extensive restaurant experience and a master's degree in drama from Yale University to his role. Prior to the show, the Brooklyn native had roles in the television shows "Guiding Light," "All My Children," and "Law & Order."
Richman is one of 24 national performers that will be featured on the Chevy Court stage this year. The announced lineup includes rising country music superstar Lady Antebellum - one of the hottest acts in American country music - at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
The other announced acts for the 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. daily Chevy Court shows are disco and funk masters Kool and The Gang at 8 p.m. Aug. 26; classic rock band Blue Oyster Cult at 2 p.m. Aug. 27; classic progressive rock group Kansas at 8 p.m. Aug. 27; high-energy rockers Blues Traveler at 8 p.m. Aug. 29; country group Eli Young Band at 2 p.m. Sept. 2; up-and-coming country singer Justin Moore at 2 p.m. Sept. 3; and rhythm and blues performer Keith Sweat at 8 p.m. Sept. 4.
