CANANDAIGUA (AP) -- A 58-year-old janitor who authorities say was obsessed with a woman at his western New York workplace has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for trying to abduct and kill her.
Robert Collins of Farmington was given the maximum sentence Tuesday in Ontario County Court, where he was convicted last month on attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and assault charges.
Authorities say Collins was obsessed with the victim, Jacqueline Marsh, who worked at the office he cleaned.
Police say he attacked Marsh outside her apartment building in Victor last November, using the handle of a rake to beat the woman over the head. Officials say he intended to kidnap and kill Marsh.
The judge also issued an order of protection against Collins, calling him a "dangerous, dangerous man."
