CLAY -- Dozens of neighbors gathered at the Clay Town Hall Monday night to voice their opposition to new buildings coming to Buckley Rd.
The developer, Red Barn, wants to put two buildings in a vacant lot. Bill Camperlino from Red Barn says he doesn't know what kind of buildings would go there or how big they would be because he doesn't have a buyer yet.
People who live by the vacant lot presented a petition to the town with 210 names on it.
"There are several issues," says Anne Vinosky, who lives off of Buckley Rd. "We have horrible traffic on Buckley Road, that particular piece of property is on a curve. We have had numerous accidents there."
The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says there have been 39 accidents on that stretch of road in the past five years. Most of those were at the intersection of Taft Rd. and Buckley Rd.
Camperlino told neighbors he doesn't think his buildings will make the traffic problems much worse, and he says he'll work with the community to find a solution.
However, neighbors say they have several other concerns, including drainage problems, and they're worried about their property values. They told the town board they'd like to see more houses in that lot.
"We just want them to hear us, we are taxpayers too. We want them to hear our concerns," says neighbor Kathy Zory.
The Town Supervisor says no decisions would be made Monday night until the board has more information. Also, because the developer doesn't have a buyer yet, some board members say they want to know more about how the lot will be used before making a decision. The zoning change has already been approved by the Clay Planning Board.
