SYRACUSE -- Centro has released its summer schedule, which features a reduced number of bus trips which the company blames on a lack of state funding.
According to a news release, Centro’s summer bus schedules will go into effect on Monday, June 28. Centro says that due to New York State’s continued reduction in funding for the State’s public transportation operators, the new schedules include a reduction in frequency of bus trips on several routes.
The company says this marks the third consecutive year in which the state has reduced its funding for public transportation authorities. They say the money provided by the state typically accounted for nearly 50% of the cost of operating Centro bus services.
“While we have had to reduce the frequency of some services, we continue to provide access for the overwhelming majority of individuals who would use public transportation,” said Centro Executive Director Frank Kobliski. “However, we are concerned that continued funding reductions from New York State will further erode our bus services and affect more and more Central New Yorkers.”
Centro says the new schedules are green in color and are now available online and at Centro distribution sites. Anyone with questions about the new schedules is asked to call Centro at 442-3400 or visit www.centro.org.
