SYRACUSE -- The funky sound of gospel-jazz will kick off the "Jazz Fest Live" hour long broadcast on NBC 3 Friday night at 7:00 pm. Kimberly Jordan rehearsed tonight on the Onondaga Community College campus, tuning up for her debut performance on the Syracuse Jazz Fest stage. She promises an uplifting, exciting performance as she shares her piano, vocal and song writing skills that she has rekindled after a serious car accident.
"Jazz Fest Live" will feature an exclusive interview with Jordan about the joy she has found after her accident in finding who she truly is and sharing her gifts with audiences all over.
The broadcast will also feature the music of Central New York native and rising musical star Evan Knight. Knight's saxophone playing has booked him on national tours with major recording artists. He is the opening act on the festival's main stage and is also scheduled to join the "Jazz Fest Live" broadcast for an interview.
Friday night headliner Jeff Lorber of Jeff Lorber Fusion is booked to chat with host Matt Mulcahy about his return to Syracuse after a lengthy absence. Lorber has assembled an all-star band including Jazz Fest regular Randy Brecker on trumpet.
Jackie Robinson will talk with several key players in returning the Syracuse Jazz Fest to a three day festival including County Executive Joanie Mahoney and OCC President Debbie Sydow.
Jazz Fest founder and executive producer Frank Malfitano will also share his exuberance for the summer time festival fixture in Central New York. Malfitano will also help us run through the details of the rest of the weekend including Saturday headliner Boz Scaggs and Sunday headliner Grammy award winning Natalie Cole.
Watch "Jazz Fest Live" Friday night from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on NBC 3.
