AUBURN -- An Auburn police officer was attacked by a dog Sunday night. According to investigators Sergeant Edward Fabrize was on routine patrol in the area of East Genesee Street and Hoffman Street when he noticed heavy smoke in the area. The officer noticed a fire pit that was being used. He went over to talk with the gentleman by the fire pit when a large pit bull ran off the side porch snapping its leash and subsequently attacking Sgt. Fabrize. Fabrize couldn't use his weapon because the other man was too close to him.

The officer suffered injuries to his right arm and right leg. Fabrize needed three stitches and suffered some muscle damage. He will have to spend some time recovering before returning to active duty. City of Auburn animal control is investigating the incident.
