SYRACUSE -- Syracuse police say they’ve arrested and charged a man in connection with a shooting on Syracuse's north side.

Police say 28-year-old Kennedy Smiley of Syracuse has been charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

They say Smiley shot 17-year-old Shaiem Hackett in the upper right chest as he was walking down Graves St. around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Hackett was taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say neighbors and witnesses helped them locate three men, who fled the scene, at a home on Douglas St.

The two other men in the home have not been charged.

Syracuse police say the investigation in continuing.
