SYRACUSE -- Shonnard Street will be closed (with the exception of local traffic) from approximately 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 1 as crews convert the 100, 200, 300 and 400 blocks of Shonnard Street (between West Street and Geddes Street) from a one-way to a two-way street.
Seymour Street will be closed (with the exception of local traffic) from approximately 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, July 2 as crews convert the 300, 400 and 500 blocks of Seymour Street (between Niagara Street and Geddes Street) from a one-way to a two-way street.
The Syracuse Common Council unanimously passed legislation authorizing these conversions on Monday, June 21.
The Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council (SMTC) conducted a study, completed in 2008, examining the impact of these changes. SMTC found that making these changes will have a traffic calming effect and will also allow parents and bus drivers to approach Seymour Elementary in such a way that students can enter and exit vehicles without crossing the street.
Crews will be installing signage, painting new street lines and activating signal heads to complete the conversions.
