DEXTER (AP) -- Authorities have released the name of the 74-year-old man who drowned in a river while camping in the north country.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department says Richard Percy of Dexter was found unconscious late Monday night on the banks of the Black River in the village of Dexter, near Lake Ontario's northeastern shore 67 miles north of Syracuse.

Authorities say he was pulled out of the water at the Black River Bay Campground by family and fellow campers.

Attempts to revive him at the scene and later at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown were unsuccessful.

Authorities say Percy was missing for a couple of hours before he was found.

The sheriff's department says he apparently drowned, but officials say they don't know how he ended up in the river.
