SYRACUSE -- They may be facing adversity, but pediatric patients at St. Joseph's hospital are getting a wonderful surprise. The Auxiliary of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center is distributing backpacks full of school supplies to St. Joseph's pediatric outpatients.
Now in its fifth year, "Operation: Backpack," is a drive to collect supplies for students who are entering first and third grades in the fall. Thousands of donated supplies are helping to fill 700 backpacks with notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, rulers, tissues, folders and crayons. The kids will receive their backpacks when they come in for their regular appointments. this summer.
"We're thrilled with the generosity of so many thoughtful people who took the time to purchase these supplies and donate them to us as part of this project," said Colleen Prossner, project coordinator. "The Auxiliary of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center thanks everyone for supporting this project and making the first day of school a little brighter for so many of our children."
