GRANBY, OSWEGO CO. -- An Oswego firefighter is accused of assaulting his father-in-law.
Oswego County Sheriff's deputies say 33-year-old Jason T. Barnhart of County Route 10 in Pennellville got into an argument with his father-in-law, Jeff Fellows, when Barnhardt went to visit his five children. The incident allegedly happened at Fellows' Granby home, escalating into a physical confrontation. Deputies say Barnhart attacked Fellows, hitting him with a cane and punching him with a closed fist, causing bruising and swelling to the face.
Barnhart is now charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal trespass. The child endangerment charge is a result of the incident allegedly happening in front of the children.
We're told Barnhart is going through a divorce and the grandparents have custody of the children.
Barnhart was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to be back in court on August 2.
