LIVERPOOL -- Wetzel Road in Liverpool is back open after a single car crash just after noon on Wednesday.

Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies say 73-year-old Rose Spinella of Liverpool drove off the rode and into a ditch. They say she then hit a driveway and went airborne, crashing into a telephone pole, with her car landing upside down.

Local resident Mark Merwin was one of the first people on the crash scene, and helped pull Spinella out of her overturned vehicle.

"My first thought is what if there are kids in there,” said Merwin. "Being a family man myself, I didn't want to take that chance. I ran over to the car. Her airbags were all deployed, so I had a hard time getting to her. But I did pull her out and got her over to safety on the lawn."

Deputies say Spinella was treated and released from St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries. They say a medical condition caused her to drive off the road.

No tickets have been issued.
