Ambulance found, man caught a few blocks away

OSWEGO -- Oswego police are investigating a bizarre robbery at Oswego Hospital tonight. Police say a patient assaulted a hospital security guard and stole an Oswego ambulance parked outside the hospital emergency entrance.
Witnesses say 40 year old Matthew Belskis of Saratoga physically assaulted the security guard then left the building. Belskis then stole an ambulance that was parked outside the entrance that had been transporting an unrelated patient to the hospital.
Oswego police found the ambulance parked a few blocks away and Belskis was located in a nearby residence. Belskis was arraigned in Oswego City Court tonight on a charge of robbery 2nd degree.
He’s in the Oswego county jail on $5,000 dollars bail. He is due back in court on Tuesday July 27th.
The security guard suffered minor injuries, but, there were no other injuries as a result of the incident. Oswego police and fire departments are continuing the investigation to determine if any other charges will be filed.
