WESTMORELAND -- It's hard to believe that someone could be so callous, but it's happened in Oneida County. The Oneida County Sheriff's Department says an unknown number of people broke into a Town of Westmoreland business and stole money, some of which would have gone to needy families.

Deputies say Sweet Old Memories, a diner located at 6506 Route 5, was broken into sometime between 10:00 pm and 9:30 am. They were able to get in through a locked side window after failing to get in the store's back door. The burglars stole about $1,000 in cash, some of which was in two different donation jars.

The money was to go to the Spring Farm Cares organization in Clinton and the family of Leon and Sherry Jayson, who died in a motorcycle accident earlier this year.

If you have any information, please contact the Sgt. Nelson at the Oneida County Sheriff's Department at 315-765-2218.
